About me

Kathy
I am still really searching for my place in this big world. But I think that is what keeps life interesting. I am a quiet person, who mostly likes to just observe life as it happens. I have been blessed with many wonderful people in my life. These people have made me who I am today and without them I would be totally lost.

Confessions of A Sidewalk Angel

Fallen on Broken Wings

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

A tiny little angel lays down in the snow all alone. It is dark and cold. A quiet hush has fallen in the night air. She shivers and stares up at the night sky full of bright twinkling stars. She used to be one of those stars. Full of brightness, full of twinkle, and full of hope. This holiday season is her favorite time of year. A time of love and laughter. She loves the twinkling holiday lights sprinkled on homes across the globe. The songs of carolers as the stroll from home to home spreading cheer. Families that comes together to enjoy the holidays always brought a smile to her face.

A single tear falls from her cheek and onto the snow below. You see she has fallen on broken wings. She has lost her flight. One day she'll find her way back into that night sky and shine bright. But for now she sits here on earth in the cold snow. Wondering how to gather her strength back. Wondering how to gain her hope back. She hopes that the new year will bring her new strength to mend her broken wings and fly again...

Bathroom Renovation 2008 - Part 3

Monday, November 24, 2008

The progress continues! Plumbing work has been done for a few weeks. Josh has run the internet cables throughout the house. The greatest progress is we no longer have doors in our hallway! (See Picture) It has been framed up and has drywall. I finished priming the walls this weekend and will paint the new color next weekend. The back wall of the old laundry room has been removed and our new closet is ready to have the drywall hung. We cut the opening for the new closet door in our bedroom. That was exciting! Electrical work is almost complete and then we'll be ready to drywall the bathroom.

This week is a two day work week for both Josh and I. We'll be doing some bathroom work on Wednesday. Then we are spending Turkey Day with both of our families!

Reflections

Thursday, November 6, 2008

I stand reflecting on the events of this week - a death, a marriage, and the "change".

There are moments that happen in life that no one can explain. You're left reflecting on what caused this rift in time. It is in these moments that you learn that there is absolutely nothing that you should take for granted in this world. Because within a split second it could be gone forever. Taken before you have a moment to truly appreciate the gifts we are given in this life. You start to wonder "what if".

Then there are moments in life that renew your faith in the ones you love. The excitement of witnessing a marriage between two people who truly love one another. To be a witness to a new beginning meant to withstand the test of time.

Then there are moments in life that leave you speechless. A moment meant for the history books, but frightful at the same time. Worried about the "change" to come. Sure some may say anything is better than today. Everyone has a view. My view at this moment in time looks gray.

Bathroom Renovation 2008 - Part 2

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Well, we are making progress! Demo is completed, wall re-framing is mostly completed, and we are now ready for the plumbing work. Plumbers came over last night to give us an estimate and will do the work on 10/11. Yippee! Still a long way to go, but one step at a time.

In other news - the Atlanta Gas Shortage is running havoc on our lives. Because Josh's Civic Si can only take premium we've had to park his car until we can find premium gas. Which means he is driving my car and I'm driving his mom's car. I miss my Honda. The weather has started to turn cold again and has started messing with my nose and sinuses. But I love fall! So bring it on!

Our 2nd Anniversary

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Josh and I celebrated our 2nd Wedding Anniversary yesterday, September 16th. One of my most memorable anniversaries yet! (This includes our dating anniversaries.) It was hard to concentrate at work all day yesterday. When I got home I had these waiting for me...

They are beautiful!!! Of course Josh was there waiting for me with a kiss. In keeping with the traditional gifts given on anniversaries, the 2nd Wedding Anniversary gift is cotton. I have been complaining for a while that I wanted a new pillow but I never found anything I was happy with. Josh bought me pillows to choose from! He's so cute. It's the small things in life that are so exciting. Who would have ever thought I'd be excited about getting pillows for a gift. We decided to go to a Japanese Steak House for dinner. It was excellent as always.

The BIG surprise of the evening was another gift we weren't expecting. Here is the back story... At our wedding we decided not to keep the top layer of our cake and freeze it. Something about freezing cake and eating a year later just doesn't sound good to me. We decided that on our 1 year anniversary we would reorder one layer of our wedding cake from the same bakery and have family and friends over to celebrate. I ordered the cake and asked for it just like our wedding cake was. (By the way, our wedding cake was blue with white details.) Sadly, when we went to pick up the cake it wasn't blue and nothing like our original cake. Then we also found out it wasn't even the same frosting or inside filling. It was all around disappointing. That brings us back to yesterday... when we got a call that the bakery had made us another cake this year for FREE! The most amazing cake I have ever tasted! (The first picture was our actual wedding cake, the second picture is the cake we received last night.)

All around the best anniversary ever in my books! Can't wait until next year!

Bathroom Renovation 2008

Friday, September 12, 2008

We officially began the renovation of our master bathroom last weekend. Our master bathroom was a mess of too many doors, not enough shower space, and a huge tub we never use. I don't know what the builder was thinking when they organized this bathroom. Clearly, they weren't thinking. So, we made a plan to remodel. We've decided to take this job on ourselves. A BIG task I know, but I have the determination and organization to push us along. My goal is to get this done before the end of the year. Thankfully we have two other full baths in our house, so this isn't a big inconvenience just yet.

Last weekend, Josh and I managed to remove all drywall from our closet and the wall that it shares with the toilet room. We also removed the carpet in the closet. I had a blast! It was a thrill to tear off that drywall. I can't wait to lift up that ugly vinyl floor! The best surprise was finding the already framed door opening into the bedroom. The opening in the picture above was the door to the closet that was located inside the bathroom. We planned to move it to open into the bedroom and now we have one less framing project to do.

This weekend we move on to the hard part - removing the toilet, vanity, shower, and tub. Thank goodness we will have help this weekend. I don't think Josh and I could do it alone. I should be interesting to say the least. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Not much to do on a Friday afternoon

Friday, August 8, 2008

I'm sure there is something productive I could be doing, but I don't feel like it. I've been grumpy since the moment I unlocked my office door this morning. Which is odd because this morning I was in an awesome mood. Joshua won So You Think You Can Dance last night. Woot! The Olympic Opening Ceremony is tonight. Double Woot! And to top it off it is Friday. Triple Woot! But here I sit bored to tears and not really thrilled about being at work.

I get to look forward to lots of yard work tomorrow. Hasn't been done in a few weeks because it is HOT and humid outside. Josh has to work on Sunday, which means I'll have to keep myself occupied for a whole day. It's hard for me to stay occupied. I have a short attention span. I need to find myself a hobby.

Oh well, 2 hours left to go on this super boring Friday. I'll force myself to go to the fitness center today only because that means I get to leave work at 4:30 instead of 5.
